My name is James Thompson. I am extremely excited and honored to be joining the
administration team at Community Elementary as the 5/6 Assistant principal.
I am a graduate of Bacon County High School in Alma, Georgia. I received my
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Georgia Southern University, a Master’s degree
of Arts in Teaching from Pittsburg State University, and a Specialist’s degree in Building
Leadership from Arkansas State University. I spent my first 3 years as a high
school/middle school math teacher at USD 503 in Parsons, Kansas. I spend the next 5
years teaching math at Roosevelt Middle School here in Coffeyville, and for the next 9
years I taught upper-level math at Field Kindley High School here in Coffeyville before
accepting the administration position at CES.
A little more about me, I was born and raised in southeast Georgia, where my family
has lived for decades now. I am a second-generation educator and coach thanks to my
father who also taught math and coached baseball both at the high school level. I am
married and have 2 children. I married my wonderful wife who is a native Kansan and
teaches in the Coffeyville school district as well for the last 20 years. Our two children
have both attended Coffeyville Public Schools since going through the early childhood
program here in Coffeyville and we look forward to seeing them both graduating within
the years to come from Coffeyville. As a family we love all things family related,
outdoors, sports, karate (Soo Bhak Do), and traveling.
Again, I couldn’t be more excited to continue the next step in my journey as an educator
here at CES as an administrator. It is an honor and privilege to be given the opportunity
to work and serve alongside the best educators, the greatest students, and the
wonderful families of Coffeyville.
